As of 2009 it will be obligatory to use FIA 8860:2004 homologated helmets in several international and national car racing disciplines.

Arai has developed the new auto racing carbon fiber GP-6 RC helmet that meets and exceeds the FIA 8860:2004 and Snell SA 2005 approval standards. Made from specially developed carbon fiber, this helmet is designed to perfect aerodynamics, with improved ventilation, with an improved visor mechanism and new quickly removable cheek pads for easy removal of the helmet after a crash, without causing stress on the neck.

The Arai GP6 RC features:

Hyper ridge shell

Wider opening (easier to take helmet on and off)

Shell mirrors shape of HANS® device

Visor opening system with lever for easier opening and secure locking (as recommended by Indy Racing League and required by Snell SA2010).

PED kit for better aerodynamic properties (install separately).

3mm thick 2 dimensional visor with F1 aluminium visor system prepared for the use of tear-offs (visor not interchangeable with GP-5)

Improved pivot kit for better aerodynamics and better visor operation

Emergency release tap cheek pads

F.I.A. approved for use with HANS® system (with factory fitted HANS® anchors).

Approved fire resistant lining

Kevlar® chinstrap
